I happen sometimes to enjoy the warmth of the sun, a heat that would directly caress my skin, without passing through the ocean water. A direct caress, a bit as if the hand of God came, without beating around the bush, to spread its share of affection among its creatures. This moment is a moment of grace. I, as a sea creature, find myself in direct contact with the sky this way. And I put myself into apnea, the time to jump out of the waves, to appreciate this heat and this light, defying the law of gravity.
Along with my fellows, we like to perform these jumps, offshore the Atlantic. We often do it together, as if to show the world our presence, not with a conquering mindset though, but with a peaceful one.
Yet unfortunately it often happens that this moment stolen from our marine nature turns into a nightmare, and even into hell... Because this aquatic dance has a price and this price is the one of humans. This species, which unlike us is so belligerent and uses its intelligence to object everything it touches ! Our sonars, which allow us to communicate for miles around, unfortunately have the disadvantage of particularly exposing us to the noise of human activities, along with its daily freight and cruise ships, which forces us, most of the time , to keep ourselves back, very close to the abyss, as far away as possible from this din !
Our escapades outside the water are therefore becoming more and more rare, as globalization gains ground... And if we do venture out, as soon as we hear the sound of any engine, we are often forced to flee, because of this hypersensitivity...
It's not unususual either for us to ingest plastic or petroleum microfibers which, even if they have disintegrated, reduce our life expectancy and kill our offspring. This is also the reason why we hold back.
And it's perhaps what hell looks like for all of us, dolphins and sea creatures: this reduction in our living space, which men nibble away like an insect would do with a leaf if nothing regulates its actions...
